About CCOTY

The award with the most sophisticated jurors

The China Car of the Year Award (CCOTY) is a program initiated by, organized by, and conducted by 27 automotive editors-in-chief who write for the most favoured car magazines in China.

The most independent car award in China

CCOTY has no affiliation with, nor is it is any way influenced by any publication, auto show, automaker, or other commercial enterprise.

We are dedicated to ensure the utmost objectivity, credibility, and integrity.

An addition to the Global COTY awards

It is intended to complement, not compete with those existing international, national and regional COTY awards, which are inherently different in scope. By its nature, CCOTY only includes vehicles that are available in China.

Experience & Expertise

It is administered by the independent automotive research institute PRIME Research, under the guidance of a steering committee of distinguished automotive journalists from China. In that way, it draws on the experience and expertise already developed by various other award programs throughout the world.

The selection process

First round: Candidacy

All new cars that hit the market from 1 October 2012 to 30 September 2013 are eligible for the selection.

Among the new cars from the same period as above, candidates of green car, performance car and car design of the year are nominated individually. But not all the candidates of Car of the Year can be nominated for these three categories.

Second round: Shortlisting

Each juror will pick five of their favorite new models out of all the candidates. The first seven autos with most votes are then shortlisted.

Same rules will apply to the selection of green car, performance car and car design of the year. However, as the number of car models eligible for candidacy varies every year, the number of shortlisted candidates may change correspondingly. In the CCOTY election 2014, 3 Green car, 5 Performance car and 5 Car design candidates are shortlisted.
